Well…we didn’t make it to KC.

My dad called me on Thursday afternoon to tell me that my mom had had a heart attack that morning and was in St John’s hospital. Can you say instant tears? Though her health hasn’t been the best in the last couple of years, I never thought she would have a heart attack. I called Mike crying and he was on his way home. So I was able to leave Ryan with Mike to drive down and be with her.

She suffered a mild enough heart attack that there isn’t lasting damage to the heart itself. However, they were only able to unplug 1 of the 3 major arteries in the heart. So her heart isn’t working as well as it should. They allowed her to come home today, Sunday, and it was such a relief to have her out of the hospital.

We are so thankful for the amazing doctors and nurses that took care of her. She is responding well to the medications and her blood pressure is great. She doesn’t have all of the squeezing motion that the heart is supposed to do and they are hoping it will increase within the next month. If it doesn’t she may have to have a fibulator added.

Please pray that she continues to heal and that she is able to get her heart ’squeezing’ the way it is supposed to. Hopefully we won’t ever have to see the Heart Unit in St Johns ever again!

Trip to Branson

We had a wonderful time in Branson with the Vogles. We left T-town about 4:30 Thursday afternoon and met the V’s at the Vinita McDonalds (the worlds Largest McDonalds! covers 4 lanes of traffic!). We decided to hoof it to Joplin and eat there, so we ended up at Olive Garden. It was Yummy and Ryan did great considering he’d been in a car for over 2 hours. What was really funny is the V’s daughter Sophie likes to sit beside Ryan and the wait staff thought she was ours. She is blonde (and I am blonde with help, hehehe) and 8 years old.

Ryan & Sophie

Which makes her young enough to be mine. And I guess because we are both blonde…. But I am looking at the guy like he is crazy because how could he think she is mine? lol Do I look like I should have an 8 year old? Well, yes, you could have a 16, 17, 18 year old! (Some of my old high school friends DO!) Ugh! I am getting old! I guess I just never viewed our family from the outside. So many adoptive families have older biological children and younger adopted Korean children. So it makes sense! Of course, I would take her any day, she is just precious!

We didn’t get to Branson until 11 pm and then it took us a while to get settled into the hotel room. Ryan slept between us which was interesting. It took him until 1230 to calm down and sleep. Does that mean he slept in? Nope! Wide awake at 650. CRAZY!

Friday we spent at Silver Dollar City. He did great, though all those hills were quite the workout for Mommy. We had a lot of fun but didn’t leave until 330 and Ryan didn’t take a nap until he was in his carseat. The whole trip, he would only nap in his carseat.

So if we were ready for him to have a nap, we just would go get in the car and drive around. I was able to shop at the outlets for 2 hours with Mike sitting in the car while Ryan slept. Yes! ;P (Don’t feel sorry for Mike! hehe He loves listening to Beethoven’s 9th symphony over and over)

So Saturday was spent at the Fish Hatchery and the Dinosaur Museum, both of which everyone should do. We met up with the V’s at Branson Landing, where we ate lunch at a mexican food place. Then we went shopping! Ryan got lots of stuff for summer and he is now all set. Yay!

We came home on Sunday. Nice easy drive home, home before 5 pm. It was a great easy trip, and we hope to do it again someday. I am SO impressed with Ryan. I really didn’t think he would be as easy going and do as well as he did. Now, I wish we could take more trips, but alas, we can’t afford it. Our next trip is Korea, so COME ON REFERRAL!
